GenX Are We Adults Yet?
Gen X, Are We Adults Yet? - A Podcast For All Generations Hi, I am Jason, and I’m Greg. We are Gen X and welcome to our podcast! We are the last generation to grow up without internet, or computers. We are the last generation that played outside all day, until the street lights came on. We watched cartoons on Saturday mornings, while reading the cereal box during commercials. We didn’t have cell phones in our pockets, we shared one house phone. Growing up over the last thirty plus years we have learned a few things about life, raising kids, losing family, managing money, having a professional career, self care, and much much more. Each episode we talk about our experiences as Gen X’ers, Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and how our lives have been influenced and shaped today. We are now hitting our 50’s and we are still wondering, Are We Adults Yet?

Gen X Are We Adults Yet? Dude, We've Been Adults
Sunday Aug 04, 2024
Sunday Aug 04, 2024
In this week's episode of "GenXAWAY?" we dive deep into a truth that's defined our generation: We've been adults since we were 10. Remember those afternoons coming home to an empty house because both parents were working? That was us, the latchkey kids. We weren't just told to grow up fast; we were thrust into it. By the time the school bell rang at 3 PM, our second shift started. There was no one to watch over us; we were our own supervisors.
We navigated through homework, house chores, and making our own dinners—often choosing between a can of soup or whatever frozen meal we could heat up in the oven, because, let’s face it, microwaves weren’t a kitchen staple yet. Each day was less about childhood play and more about managing a miniature version of adult life.
We've Been Adults.

Gen X Are We Adults Yet? Will Our 50's Be Our Last Good Decade?
Sunday Jul 28, 2024
Sunday Jul 28, 2024
Hey fellow Gen Xers! This week's episode of "GenXAWAY?" is both a reflection and a forward-thinking journey as we confront an inevitable truth: We are the next in line. As the icons and elders from our childhood pass on or step into their 70s, the baton is being passed to us. But are we ready for what's next?
👴👵 As we navigate our 50s, this decade could very well be our last significant stretch of youthful vigor before age and health start making more demands on us. This isn't about lamenting the past but preparing vigorously for the future. Are we ready to be the old people of the world? It's our turn next.
Here’s what we’re diving into:
Physical and Financial Preparation: Are your health and finances set up to support a robust life after 60? We’ll discuss strategies to ensure you're as fit in your wallet as you are in your body.
Spiritual and Emotional Resilience: How are you cultivating inner strength? We're talking about fostering gratitude and humility, and why these qualities matter more as we age.
Relationships and Regrets: Is there a hatchet that needs burying? Now's the time to mend those fences and make your peace, ensuring your relationships are as healthy as your body.
🎵 Remember those who've shown us the ropes but are no longer with us, from Leonard Nimoy to David Bowie, and reflect on the legacy we wish to leave behind.
👂 Tune in, engage, and start the conversation about preparing for the later chapters with intention and insight. Click below to watch our latest episode and join us as we ponder, "Are our 50s really our last good decade?" [Insert video link here]
📺 Don’t just coast into old age; plan for it, embrace it, and maybe even enjoy it. Let’s get real about preparing for what many call the golden years. Are you ready? Let's figure it out together on GenXAWAY!
Share your thoughts, plans, and fears with us. How are you getting ready to face the realities of aging? Let’s support each other in this next phase of our journey.

Tuesday Jun 18, 2024
This week on "Gen X, Are We Adults Yet?", we're tackling a tale of survival, struggle, addiction, CYA, prison and ultimate triumph. Click for the real life of Steve L., whose early exposure to a life of addiction set him on a path that would land him in California State Prison.
Steve's journey into the abyss began under the influence of addict parents, spiraling from casual use of weed and alcohol to the high-octane rush of meth. Sunday Dec 31, 2023
Sunday Dec 31, 2023
In the latest episode of our podcast, we travel back to 1974, a defining year in American culture and television. The top song of the year "Come and Get Your Love - Redbone" and the number one TV show, "All in the Family." This was a year marked by political shifts with Nixon and Ford in the presidency and everyday items like pork chops and pantyhose being surprisingly affordable.
The episode focuses on the groundbreaking sitcom "Good Times," a spin-off of "Maude" and ultimately "All in the Family." "Good Times" was set in a public housing project in Chicago and starred Esther Rolle and John Amos as the Evans parents, along with their children J.J., Thelma, and Michael, and their neighbor Willona. The show later introduced a young Janet Jackson as Willona's adopted daughter.
"Good Times" was pivotal in challenging the norms of American television. It was one of the first shows to portray an African American two-parent family in a lead role and addressed real social issues. The podcast discusses the evolution of black representation on TV, from the stereotypical portrayals in "Amos 'n' Andy" to more authentic depictions in the 1970s with shows like "Sanford and Son," "The Jeffersons," and "Good Times."
The episode also delves into the cultural impact and limitations of "Good Times." Despite its groundbreaking nature, the show faced issues like tokenism, network censorship, and limited influence from black creators. Nevertheless, it offered an honest portrayal of poverty and boldly addressed contemporary issues, breaking television barriers and providing a voice for marginalized communities.
The significance and legacy of "Good Times" are highlighted, noting its role in fostering greater understanding and empathy, its lasting cultural references, and the impact on its cast members' careers. The episode reminisces about memorable moments and episodes, illustrating how "Good Times" remains a touchstone in pop culture today.

In our very first episode, your hosts, Jason and Greg, transport you back in time to the roots of our Gen X story. Picture it: Jason, born and raised in the heart of Manteca, California, and Greg, originally from "East LA," but as it turns out, that's not exactly where you might think. We delve deep into our childhoods, where Jason recalls daring stunts like jumping out of a moving vehicle (yes, you read that right), navigating a household that seemed to have a revolving door for houseguests, and recounting the antics of his partner-in-crime, Eric, who was responsible for half of his shenanigans. We also share stories of Crazy Sandy, the wild world of motorcycle gangs, and the legendary Granny Goose Van.
On the other side of the story, Greg's childhood was a unique journey, moving from bustling Southern California to the quieter town of Ripon. His family became synonymous with the local pizza parlor, "Pizza Plus," and his Mom earned the title of "Mom to All" in the community.
